A warm welcome back to you all after the Christmas break and I hope that you all had a wonderful time with your families. As you will read in this newsletter, learning has got off to a flying start with new topics embraced with great enthusiasm by children and teachers alike. What a wonderful way to be able to start our term; sharing the news of the Ofsted outcome! Once the final report was ready to be published on the 5th January, we were able to tell the staff and the whole school community the good news. It was one of the hardest things to keep secret and wonderful to share. Again, thank you for your kind comments and congratulations—it means the world to the whole team.
The beginning of term has seen some additions to the team: Mrs Louise Greenhill in Chestnut Class and Miss Sophie Millward in Ash Class. I hope they have a long and happy career with us at Summercroft. Miss Millward will be starting work with us after half term and we’re grateful to everyone who has helped to provide support for Miss Cheer and the children in Ash Class.
I’m sorry to report we have had further complaints from local residents about parking around Plaw Hatch Close. Please avoid parking on pavements as it restricts the ability of people who use wheelchairs to travel safely on paths. It’s also difficult for those families with pushchairs. In addition, I have received complaints about the grass areas being turned into mud baths by our parents constantly using these as parking bays. Your support is much appreciated, thank you.
Most of you know how keen I am to encourage our children to wear their uniform smartly. Please could this extend to fashion hair bands, too. Whilst I admire the array of flowery creations for weekend wear, plain bands should be worn for school. Shoes, rather than boots or trainers should be worn inside school. Thank you.
Please help us to reduce the risk of spreading bugs by keeping children at home for 48 hours after their last bout of sickness. Office staff make a note of the 48 hour rule so parents only need to ring again if children are unwell for longer than this.
Carwash Planning Application
Thank you for all the support shown around the objections to this development. Mr Kirby and myself met with representatives from Hilton and the planner to share our concerns further and show them the site itself. They were shocked to see the impact that clearing the land has had and I look forward to continued discussions with them.
