Look how much the chicks have grown after ten days in Foundation. The children have watched them hatch, learnt many interesting facts about chickens and even had a chance to hold them. However, on Friday afternoon, it was time to say Goodbye to the chicks. At ten days old, it was time for them to be collected and taken to their new home, a free range farm.
On Monday, Foundation had a delivery of an incubator containing ten eggs.
This morning we arrived to school to find five chicks climbing over each other.
Lunch time today saw this little chick, hatching to the delight of some very excited children and staff!
Last week was especially busy with three candidates spending two days being interviewed for the post of Deputy Headteacher. According to the candidates, one of the toughest challenges was being interviewed by some Year 5 children. Amongst the more unusual questions were: ‘Can you tell us a joke?’ and ‘If you had £500 what would you spend it on?’ We are delighted to be able to announce that Mr Stephen Jess has been appointed and has accepted the role of Deputy Headteacher from September 2014. We look forward to welcoming him as part of the team.
Staff, governors, parents and especially the pupils were all delighted when Mrs Hinstridge was appointed as the new Headteacher of Summercroft Primary School. Having been part of the Summercroft community for twenty years, nine of those as Deputy Headteacher, she has been instrumental in many of the innovations that are part of the everyday life of the school and those that make Summercroft an ‘Outstanding’ School. With a seamless transition from Deputy to Headteacher, we look forward to the promise of some exciting new developments just around the corner. Watch this space!
During an assembly packed with every pupil from Nursery to Year 6 and all members of staff, Summercroft said a fond farewell to Mr Smith, who leaves after 13 years as Headteacher. The children had prepared a moving goodbye video, performed a medley of songs with original words and each class presented Mr Smith with a farewell card. Mr Smith presented the school with an apple tree and a beautiful stone bench. Finally the staff surprised Mr Smith and the children with a rendition of ‘Days’ accompanied by Miss Lewis on the piano, Mr Purser on the guitar and a band of percussionists sporting Mr Smith masks.
Finally, the children lined the walkway holding banners in many different languages, while cheering Mr Smith all the way to the dining room.
Thank you, Mr Smith, for a very happy, successful time at Summercroft. We wish you good health and happiness in the future. Goodbye Mr Smith!
Our new CD has been recorded. It is called ‘Songs from Summercroft’. Each year group has contributed a song and there are also some songs sung by several year groups together. The year 5 and 6 choirs have recorded their own special items and the whole CD is be a wonderful celebration of singing at our school. We eagerly await the arrival of the CDs in two weeks time. It is not too late to order your copy. Please contact the office.
