Here we are at the end of the second term and what a way to finish it with the Year 4 play and several other end of topic presentations! The children have shared their knowledge of endangered species and WWII, persuaded parents to save tribes from destruction, hosted Mother’s Day afternoons, visited Hatfield Forest and the town library—all in the past fortnight! It’s no wonder we’re all in need of the Easter break.
We said a ‘Fond Farewell’ to Mrs Burns in assembly this week. Annette is taking (early) retirement from her role as an HLTA at Summercroft; although we are lucky enough to still have her expertise in school but on a less regular basis. Mrs Burns first joined the school as a volunteer back in 1998 but officially became a member of staff in January 2001. She has had many different and varied roles during her time her which include being Chair of Governors. It is with gratitude that we wish Annette a very long and happy retirement.
In other staffing news, Mr Jenkins has decided that he would also like to enjoy a well-earned retirement and will be leaving us when the children break up for their Summer holidays. We will be marking his departure next term and I’m delighted to share with you that Mr Colin Camp will become Site Manager from July 23rd! Most of you will recognise Mr Camp as he is currently our Assistant Site Manager and I know that the school security, maintenance and grounds will be in good hands. At the beginning of next term we will be looking for a replacement for Mr Camp’s current responsibilities so do bear this in mind if you know someone who might like this role!
We would also like to recruit some new MSAs as we are having to restrict the children to designated playgrounds because of lack of staff. If you like the outdoors, have a good sense of humour, enjoy leading play activities and have a spare hour and 15 minutes in the middle of the day, we would love to hear from you! Do contact Mrs Goldsworthy in the office to find out more details.
Whilst all the staff are ready for a break, we are also very excited to launch our ‘Carnival’ topic next term. The PTA are supporting this venture by paying for Bangdrum to start the proceedings and by purchasing percussion instruments to create a suitable soundtrack to accompany it! Should be great fun!
Have a wonderful Easter break and I look forward to seeing you all back on Tuesday 23rd April at 8:50.
