Year 5’s original artworks based on Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ are now complete and look stunning! Our theme was ‘A Summercroft Sky’ so while some of us chose to continue the tree theme apparent in ‘Starry Night’, others chose to include the more modern playground apparatus in the foreground of their pictures. The bright, colourful skies depict either day, night, sunrise or sunset, with the signature swirls for which Van Gogh is renowned evident in the layered background. The effort and attention to detail we put into this project is clear to see in the amazing finished products.
In computing, we have been combining our stop-motion animation skills and scientific knowledge to create a movie showing the Phases of the Moon. We are still trying to get our heads around the rather complicated vocabulary of ‘waxing’and ‘waning’, however the Moon Diaries we have kept over the past two weeks have helped us to see the changing phases as they happen. When the moon wasn’t covered by cloud that is… Did you happen to see the brilliant Supermoon last week?
This week we are focusing on North & South America. In groups we are researching a specific country and will be producing an illustrated map to show all the information we find out. We will then be sharing our knowledge with the rest of the class and teaching everyone else about what we have found out. Merry Christmas! Feliz Natal! Feliz Navidad!
