Last week we had an action packed Arts week filled with lots of wonderful work based around ‘The Gray Tree’ by artist Piet Mondrian. We went on a walk around the school and did an observational drawing of a tree in pencil, before exploring charcoal to draw a silhouette of a tree.We then looked at how Piet moved on to abstract art and we made our own representations of his piece ‘Composition No 11, using both paper and the computer program Purple Mash.
This week we began our Barnaby Bear topic with an exciting journey to France with Summercroft Airways! The children got their passports stamped and were shown to their seats by their flight attendants, before watching a safety video during take-off. When landing in France, the children learnt a variety of words such as ‘bonjour’, ‘merci’ and ‘au revoir’. We looked at different landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Notre Dame cathedral. To end our week in France, we had a delicious French breakfast where the children tasted croissants, Pain au Chocolat and Jus d’orange – it was yummy!
