A challenge was set! Create an enormous piece of art for a display, bigger than the children and each of them must help. It also had to relate to the new Creative Curriculum topic. That doesn’t sound too tricky, we hear you cry!
The piece of art chosen was ‘Tiger in a Tropical Storm’ by Henri Rousseau. It was divided into 60 pieces and every child was given a section. Enthusiastically each child set to work sketching, shading and colour mixing. Everyone felt that their small piece of art would be amazing within the whole picture.
Some problem solving was required when the children started to realise that the piece next to the one they had worked on wasn’t quite the same colour or didn’t line up. As they started to fit the jigsaw together again, the determination to make the picture line up was wonderful to watch. Although each child is proud of their contribution, they are especially proud of the piece as a whole. Their persistence has paid off and words such as “Great!” “Lovely!” and “Awesome!” have been heard as the children have passed by.
Do pop in to see it between Apple and Maple classrooms if you have time. The children would love to share their hard work with you.
