SnapChat have launched a new feature, Snap Maps, which allows users to see the exact location of their contacts. This feature allows others to accurately pinpoint where you are and even see if you are travelling or stationary. There are three possible privacy settings:
- Ghost mode, where only you can see your position;
- My Friends mode, where any contact can see your location;
- Select Friends mode, where just those who you choose can see you.
ChildNet have posted a thorough explanation of SnapMaps and how to ensure users stay safe. Please have a read to share with other parents and friends who you know use the app.
Please remember the minimum age for using SnapChat is 13 – there is a child friendly version called Snapkidz for under 13s.
The following link to NSPCC NetAware reminds parents of the risks of allowing children to use the 13+ version of SnapChat.
