Year 3 have been growing…… plants, although we have noticed how tall some of the children have got too!
The children decided that they would like to sell plants at the Summer Fair as their enterprise topic this half term. They looked at seeds and questioned what sorts of plants they would like to buy. They were very knowledgeable about the conditions the seeds would need to grow successfully. The chosen seeds were runner beans, tomatoes, sunflowers, marigolds and nasturtiums.
The children spent a morning filling pots with compost, planting their seeds and watering before deciding where would be the best place to leave the pots. Apple Class have their plants growing on a table near the window for warmth and sunlight. Maple Class started their plants by the sink but then moved them to a window position.
So far, most of the plants have germinated but the runner beans and sunflowers look the strongest and are growing fastest. Myah said, “They are growing really fast. It’s pretty cool!” Curtis was surprised how fast the plants were growing. He said, “I thought it would take a month!”
By the Summer Fair on 9th July, all of our plants should be ready to sell. Please come along and support us!
