In Reception we began our Maths week with a visit from the Problem Solving Company, where the children learnt by trial and error how to make different shapes using the many resources available. They seemed to particularly enjoy seeing how many shapes they could use to make a triangle, moving and changing the shapes until they fitted perfectly. We have loved having family members in during the afternoons this week and the children greatly enjoyed showing them how we do Maths in the Early Years! Florence and her Mummy were finding out whose shoe was the longest by measuring them with Unifix cubes and Luke’s Mummy showed him how to use a ruler to find out how many centimetres their feet were! Kai enjoyed showing his Mummy how to use the Numicon to make different numbers and was proud of himself when he made number thirteen using a ten, two and a one Numicon tile. We hope that you took away some fun and exciting ideas that you can try at home with your children.
