On Tuesday last week, we returned from assembly to find a giant keyhole in our classroom! In small groups we took it in turns to enter the keyhole, into the unknown. Once we were inside we could hear some strange noises – what was making the noise? How did the noise make us feel? Lots of children said they found the music relaxing and calming. Where were we? Harvey thought we were inside a dragon’s stomach and the green light was its blood. Grace thought we were in an enchanted forest. Who lived in this land? Lots of children thought that mythical creatures would live in this land. What is the weather like in this land? Lara thought we were in a world where the weather was influenced by your mood. What happens in this land? If we went further into this land what would we find? Poppy thought we would find a native village full of cannibals. Rahil thought that walking further you would find lots of fireworks talking and eating.
Whilst we were waiting for our turn to go ‘Through the Keyhole’ there were three different activities to complete. The first activity involved looking at a range of stories involving portals and trying to work out what the portal was e.g. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe uses a wardrobe and Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs uses a store cupboard. The second activity involved looking at lots of different pictures of keys and using our imagination to decide what the key might open. Our third activity involved looking at pictures of different portals and describing where the portal would lead.
It was an exciting start to our new topic and we certainly had to use lots of imagination.
