It’s been a bit of a tradition to end Year 2 with ‘Seaside’ as the topic and a trip to the beach! This year was no exception and, as ever, the children in Oak and Holly class had a fantastic trip to the beach at Frinton. There was no expectation of any work during this trip and the children loved building sandcastles, digging and paddling. Their behaviour was also exceptional and they were a credit to our school. I’m sure you’ll agree that the photographs show how much fun everyone had!
Much of the children’s learning in the classroom has been based around the Seaside topic as well and the children have produced some fantastic artwork of a beach from an aerial perspective.
The children have learning lots of poems in the classroom and these have focused on the theme of the seaside too. We were really impressed with the children’s poetry performances and, following on from this, the rhythm and rhyme they used to write their own poems.
We will be continuing the theme of the seaside over our final week together. The children will be making their own board game (based around The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch) and they will also be comparing seaside and urban environments, learning geographical terms to describe place.
Wishing you a calm and relaxing summer break,
The Year 2 Team.
