This half term, Holly and Oak classes have been learning about the special things and places that are important to different religions. We began by looking at the Christian faith. We set the classroom out as a church and the children sat in rows (like pews). We made an altar at the front and placed candles either side. We discovered what things they would see on the altar and learned some of the things that the Vicar might say.
Then we learned about Islam, thinking about their religious buildings and how they pray. We learned that Muslims have to take off their shoes and wash before they pray. They pray facing towards the holy city, Mecca. The children wore special clothing and knelt on a prayer mat. We looked at the Quran and noticed how it was written from the back to the front.
