The Year 5 children have been busy exploring how Anderson Shelters were made during the bombings of World War 2. Having read about how everyone helped out to make these shelters in ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’, the children were then given the task of scaling down real life measurements to make model Anderson Shelters. In maths we looked at ratios and used our knowledge of how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000 to help make realistic measurements that were in proportion to the actual measurements.
For homestudy the children were given a 3 week project that involved them researching about rations during the war, creating a garden or allotment plot and planning a three course meal for a family of four using ration recipes. The effort that was put into the designs really impressed Mr Eaton and Miss Lewis and the recipes that were put together sounded ‘interesting!
